Learned Excellence for Athletes
About

Dr. Mitch Abrams is a sport, clinical and forensic psychologist, licensed in New York and New Jersey, and is the nation’s expert in Anger Management & Violence Prevention in Sports. He has worked with professional, collegiate & high school athletes, coaches and teams, as well as those at the youth sport level.

His book, Anger Management in Sport: Understanding and Controlling Violence in Athletes, is the only book that, not only explains sports violence descriptively in the context of society, substance abuse and mental illness, but also provides effective intervention programming to increase sport performance while decreasing athlete transgression and prevent dating/sexual violence.  The Abrams Model of Sexual Assault Prevention for Athletes is the most comprehensive program available.  Uniquely qualified, Dr. Abrams, in addition to working in the sports world, has overseen mental health services in the New Jersey State Prison system for the past twenty one years and is currently the Chief Psychologist for University Correctional HealthCare of Rutgers University.  He is proficient not only in treating the most severe forms of violence, but also has the proficiency to assess risk of future offending as well.  In addition to being a sought after consultant and speaker in the community, Dr. Abrams has been at the forefront of the sport psychology world – being the only sport psychologist training colleagues and students on topics related to the prevention and treatment of violence and abuse in sports at national conventions.  He has offices in Fords and Tinton Falls, New Jersey, but consults with athletes, teams and organizations nationally. He has been working with high level athletes from the youth sports to professional level for over twenty years.
